The Cat’s Diary

Day 183 of my captivity: My captors continued to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat while I am forced to eat dry cereal.

The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from clawing the furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another house plant.

Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded. Must try this at the top of the stairs.

In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair. Must try this on their bed.

Even better, pillows!

Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear in their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was.

Hmmm, not working according to plan.

There was some sort of a gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More importantly, I overheard that my confinement was due to my powers of inducing “allergies.” Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit.

The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant because it speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured.

But I can wait. It’s only a matter of time.

The Mystery of Hot Dog’s Tail

Since Hot Dog is the only cat we allow to go outside, the others are naturally interested in him. He has all sorts of interesting smells and the rest of the clan wants to know where he’s been.

For some reason, Mama’s especially interested in Hot Dog– in particular, his tail. What is on the tail is a mystery to us, but Mama sure can read the signals.

Mama Sniffing Hot Dog's Butt

I’ll bet Hot Dog’s tail reads something like this:

  • Left house after breakfast
  • Peed in neighbor’s bushes
  • Crawled into drainage ditch for a nap
  • Crawled out of drainage ditch to visit friends and get groomed
  • Took a crap on friend’s lawn
  • Went home; rolled around on sidewalk until mom & dad come home
  • Went inside for dinner
  • Whined at door until someone lets me out
  • Rolled around on sidewalk
  • Peed in neighbor’s bushes
  • Whined at door until someone lets me in
  • Ate dinner #2
  • Whined at door until someone lets me out
  • Changed my mind– whined at door until someone lets me back in
  • Bored– whined until someone let me outside again
  • Took a nap in laundry room
  • Peed on the lawn (but it looked like I was just sitting there)
  • Chased birds
  • Got chased by possums
  • Slept on neighbor’s lawn until mom & dad woke up
  • Whined at door for breakfast

Catnip Night

Tonight was catnip night at our house. Our kitties absolutely love this cardboard scratcher we got for them. It’s a right triangle with corrugated cardboard on the long side, where the cats can dig their claws into the material. Underneath in the triangle part is a little disco ball, where the cats can stick their hands through the holes and knock the ball around.

The fun part is rubbing catnip into the corrugated cardboard. The cats go berserk, slobbering all over the cardboard and trying to eat the catnip.

Vincent had a go at it first. Here he is, approaching the funky smell with a bit of caution.

Vincent and the 'nip

Once the ‘nip started taking effect, Vince was stupefied. He was eating the cardboard to get a good buzz going on…. Awww yeah, that’s the stuff…. Mama, on the other hand, is not amused. She’s a little camera shy.

Mama Bear and Vincent

Vince, surprisingly enough, didn’t get into it that much. We’re thinking he likes higher grade catnip– he’s been around.

Hot Dog sauntered in and had a go at the ‘nip. He completely lost it, slobbering and chewing, rubbing his chin all over the wet cardboard. We snapped picture after picture, but he was oblivious. Hot Dog is officially f*$&ed up.

Hot Dog

Now Hot Dog’s eyes are rolled back in his head, but he can’t pull himself away. The cardboard is mushy where he’s drooling, but he tries to shove his face into the ‘nip anyway. He’s totally high.
